During the 1860s, there was a bit of a “Fern Frenzy” in Britain. This simple plant was collected, studied, cultivated, and included in various works — from architecture, to fabric, and even jewelry by the romantic Victorian people. It became a symbol of “trustworthiness and humility” as well as “pleasurable pursuits” during this time.

Today, I am reminded of the introspective practice of keeping a journal when I look at the Fern. Where pages and pages are entrusted with our deepest thoughts and feelings. A humble and solitary pursuit of the pleasures of record-keeping. Writing, sketching, dreaming, and unwinding after long days. Honest musings like spores dispersed in the wind — scattered and then slowly unfurling into new growth.
