• Aka-Mai - was the first rice introduced to Japan, also known as 'KODAI-MAI' (ancient rice).
• Takenoko - Bamboo shoots can be eaten, and when they grow large enough to become bamboo, the trunk can be cut and used as a vessel.
• Kaki - They either waited for them to ripen or dried them to enjoy the sweet persimmons.
• Uri - In the Heian period, melon-like cucumber was available and was eaten when fully ripe.
• Nobiru - Garlic aroma with a leek-like taste. Believed to have vital and rejuvenating powers.
